Dow Jones
Description
Dow Jones usually means the Dow Jones Industrial Average, a major U.S. stock market index.
In simple terms, it tracks the stock prices of 30 large and well-known U.S. companies.
The Dow Jones is important because many investors use it as a quick snapshot of how major blue-chip companies are performing. When the Dow rises, it may suggest that investors are feeling more confident about large established companies.
For example, if many companies in the Dow Jones move higher on the same day, the index will usually rise.
The Dow Jones is not the same as the entire stock market. It only tracks 30 companies, while broader indexes like the S&P 500 track many more companies.
