Core PCE

Description

Core PCE means the Personal Consumption Expenditures price index excluding food and energy prices. In simple terms, Core PCE shows the underlying inflation trend without the most volatile items. Core PCE is important because the Federal Reserve often focuses on it to judge whether inflation pressure is cooling or staying persistent. Food and energy prices can move sharply, so excluding them can give a smoother inflation signal. For example, if energy prices fall but services prices keep rising, Core PCE may remain high. Core PCE is not the same as headline PCE inflation. Headline PCE includes all items, while Core PCE excludes food and energy.
