Total Addressable Market
Description
Total addressable market means the total revenue opportunity available if a company could sell to everyone in its target market.
In simple terms, TAM shows how big the full market opportunity could be.
Total addressable market is important because investors use it to judge how much room a company may have to grow. A large TAM can support a long-term growth story, especially for fast-growing companies.
For example, a cloud software company may estimate the total addressable market for its products at $100 billion.
Total addressable market is not the same as actual revenue. It is a potential opportunity, not what the company already earns.
