Sector Leadership
Description
Sector leadership means one or more sectors are driving market gains.
In simple terms, sector leadership shows which parts of the market are leading the move higher.
Sector leadership is important because it helps investors understand the strength and character of a market rally. If leadership is broad, the rally may look healthier. If only one sector leads, the market may be more concentrated.
For example, if technology and semiconductor stocks are responsible for most of the market’s gains, they are showing sector leadership.
Sector leadership can change. A sector that leads one month may lag the next if economic conditions or investor expectations shift.
