Market Catalyst
Description
Market catalyst means an event or piece of news that triggers a noticeable market move.
In simple terms, a market catalyst is something that gives the market a reason to move.
Market catalysts are important because they can change investor behavior quickly. A catalyst can be an earnings report, inflation data, a Fed decision, a major product announcement, a geopolitical event, or a change in guidance.
For example, a strong earnings report can be a catalyst that pushes a company’s stock higher.
A market catalyst is not the same as a long-term trend. A catalyst may start a move, but the move may not continue unless the broader story supports it.
