Operating Profit
Description
Operating profit means the profit a company makes from its main business operations before interest and taxes.
In simple terms, operating profit shows how much money a company earns from running its core business.
Operating profit is important because it helps investors understand whether the company’s main business is healthy. It removes some items that are not directly related to daily operations.
For example, if a company sells products and earns money after paying production, wages, rent, and other operating costs, that remaining amount is operating profit.
Operating profit is not the same as net income. Net income includes additional items such as interest, taxes, and sometimes one-time gains or losses.
