Continuing Claims
Description
Continuing claims mean the number of people who continue to receive unemployment benefits after filing earlier claims.
In simple terms, continuing claims show how many unemployed people are still getting support because they have not found work yet.
Continuing claims are important because they can show whether unemployed workers are finding jobs quickly or staying unemployed longer. If continuing claims rise, it may suggest that finding a new job is becoming harder.
For example, if many people remain on unemployment benefits for several weeks, continuing claims may increase.
Continuing claims are not the same as initial jobless claims. Initial claims show new applications, while continuing claims show ongoing benefit recipients.
